West Craven Turbines vs. LT United

The second game scheduled in what is to be one of Turbines toughest months in basketball was against league leaders LT United, who are still unbeaten this season and were clear favourites as Turbines have never received victory over the Lithuanians. Turbines were still without injured P. Marshall and D. Widdup; Turbines played this fixture with the same roster as the previous game.

It was Turbines who started out successfully with Raul Gonzalez scoring from in the paint. The first quarter also saw Ben Capps getting to the line for free throws, Pete Robinson scoring on the break and Renko Ireton hitting a three from the wing. Despite Turbines having a good quarter the Lithuanians still managed to keep ahead by 7pts at the end of the quarter with the score at 10-17.

Turbines used the second quarter as an opportunity to play youngsters Roman Bradshaw and Jack Wellings. The Turbines however, lacked in defence intensity as LT would provide a 3 point explosion on West Craven and ease ahead to a 46-19 lead by half time.

There were little points for Turbines in the third quarter although they did manage to keep LTs scoring low. Some good plays came with Gonzalez inside and Ireton hitting another from the arc. Turbines had showed improvements in that half but the game was already taken away from them with the third quarter finishing 63-26.

The fourth quarter was an opportunity to get the inexperienced on court for plenty of playing time. A quick score came from Phil Smith linking up with Capps and two conciliation 3s came from Robinson with two minutes. However, little strength and speed so Turbines struggle to prevent LT from another scoring surge as they drop 29 on Turbines throughout the quarter. A final attempt at basket came from Capps to score from the line to take Turbines to 38. The final score 38-92 to LT.

This game was used as an opportunity for the young players to play against the best in the league. A tough period for Turbines in their campaign with so many players missing but a good came for some as keys players Capps, Ireton and Smith decided to have a bit of fun with the laid back opportunity to have a 3 point show down with Ireton taking the honours. The MVP goes to Ireton for an improved shooting display giving him a season high of 12 points. Top scorers Robinson 15, Ireton 12, Gonzalez 7, Capps 2 and Smith 2.
